The service of mathématiques of the Faculté des Sciences Appliquées (FSA) groups 4 associate professors, 2 teaching assistants, 10 tutors, and a part-time secretary.
Professors and assistants typically conduct research in domains such as discrete geometry and discrete algebra (as opposed to continuous mathematics). Problems studied range from construction to discrete structure characterization, based on symmetry or combinatorics.
The unit offers 7 mathematics courses to engineering students. The objective of the courses is to provide a solid and structured background, with emphasis on the development of strategies for solving new problems, rather than standard techniques. The students are encouraged to take advantage of
- Interactive classroom exercises taught by a mixed group of young assistants and Mathematics teachers,
- Customized textbooks providing examples and practical applications,
- Tutoring by senior students (in particular for freshmen with difficulties in Mathematics).
Problemaths
Solve practical problems that involve mathematics. The exercises require more than recipes and standard techniques and develop the ability to tackle new situations. Problemaths are offered on a regular basis during the academic year:
- Problemaths 1, 2 et 3 (2009-2010)
- Finale 2008-2009
- Problemaths 7, 8, 9 et 10 (2008-2009)
- Problemaths 1, 2 et 3 (2008-2009)
- Finale 2007-2008
- Problemaths 10, 11, 12 et 13 (2007-2008)
- Problemaths 7, 8 et 9 (2007-2008)
- Problemaths 4, 5 et 6 (2007-2008)
- Problemaths 1, 2 et 3 (2007-2008)
- Finale 2006-2007
- Problemaths 10, 11 et 12 (2006-2007)
- Problemaths 7, 8 et 9 (2006-2007)
- Problemaths 4, 5 et 6 (2006-2007)
